Matthew R. Sayles is the founder and Praetorian Prefect of Philville Records, an independent label he formed in 2003 in Marquette, Michigan.

Sayles has toured nationally and internationally with his bands Frostbitten Grass and the Ventucky String Band, and has the honor of preforming with country/bluegrass/and western swing legends like Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Asleep at the Wheel, Larry Sparks, Doyle Lawson, the Duhks, Uncle Earl, and a long list of other highly talented regional and national roots music performers.

Philville Records moved to Ventura, CA in 2009, and Sayles continues to write, record, produce and perform around L.A. and the Central coast with the Ventucky String Band, and his more recent alt. country project the Detroit Sportsmen's Congress. He also performs and does session work with several Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara alt. country and roots music projects.
